I have the honour to forward as usual for

the information of the Right Honourable the Secretary of

State for the Colonies, Summaries of the number of Chinese

who left and arrived at this Port in the year 1897.

I must mention that the information concern-

ing those "arrived" is obtained from the Masters and Agents

of the various steaners, and that there is no means of check-

ing the number in this Office.
